IU School of Medicine internal grant due Jan. 9

The application deadlines for the following IUSM internal grant programs is 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9:

All full-time IU School of Medicine faculty with an appointment of assistant professor or assistant scientist and above at time of submission, regardless of tenure status, are eligible to apply for these grants. Visiting faculty are not eligible. 

Biomedical Research Grant: 

The Biomedical Research Grant Program aims to foster scholarly and creative research by worthy investigators so that they can compete successfully for extramural research support.  

Two categories of research projects will benefit from this program:

  • Research projects of investigators new to IU School of Medicine who do not yet have extramural funding and who need support to acquire the preliminary data necessary to compete for extramural funding
  • Research projects of established investigators of IU School of Medicine who are between funding periods from extramural sources.

Applications for both categories are considered small grants and should have a maximum requested amount of $40,000 and be limited to one year in duration.

The starting date of proposed project cannot be later than three months after the proposal submission deadline.

Research Enhancement Grant:

The Research Enhancement Grant program aims to stimulate research productivity across the IU School of Medicine, including the seven regional medical education centers and medical sciences program in Bloomington.

This grant provides a maximum of $40,000 to foster scholarly and creative research by worthy investigators so that they can compete successfully for extramural research support. It is anticipated that two to five grants will be awarded each round for a one year duration.

Investigators may not simultaneously apply for a Research Enhancement Grant and a Biomedical Research Grant, nor may they apply for either one if they have received funding from either source in two of the preceding four 12 month periods from the date of submission of the proposed application.

This program is funded by the IU School of Medicine with matching funds contributed by each of the regional medical centers and medical sciences program in Bloomington.
