Several cancer research grants and scholarships due in late April/early May

The deadlines for three opportunities related to cancer research are due during the last week of April:

William J. Wright Scholarships applications due April 25

Applications from medical students who wish to participate in its summer research program at the IU Simon Cancer Center are due Friday, April 25.

The William J. Wright Scholarship Fund supports third- and fourth-year medical students with strong academic credentials who plan to pursue a career in the care of patients with cancer. The program also seeks students who have displayed strong humanistic qualities throughout their medical school career.

Cancer Research Day abstracts due April 30

The deadline to submit abstracts for Cancer Research Day, hosted by the IU Simon Cancer Center, has been extended to Wednesday, April 30.

Students, fellows and faculty conducting cancer research at IUPUI, IU-Bloomington, Purdue and the Harper Cancer Research Institute, a collaboration between the IU School of Medicine and the University of Notre Dame, are eligible to participate in Cancer Research Day. This annual event aims to increase understanding and awareness of IU Simon Cancer Center research endeavors and encourage collaboration with other cancer research institutions in Indiana. Cash awards will be given for best poster(s) in each research category by group.

Cancer Research Day is scheduled Thursday, May 29 at the IUPUI Campus Center, Room 450. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Friday, April 18. More information on the abstracts and the submission process is available online.

American Cancer Society grants due May 1

Applications for funds for new pilot projects from the American Cancer Society are due Thursday, May 1. These institutional research grant  will provides support for beginning investigators to enable them to initiate their independent research program.

Up to $40,000 per application will available to four pilot projects beginning June 1. Special funds also are available for one additional pilot study in the amount of $40,000 with a focus on pediatric oncology.
