Sheryl Allen recognized as influential African American educator

Sheryl E. Allen, M.D., has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Most Influential African American Educators for 2014 by Black Health Magazine.

Dr. Allen is an associate dean for medical student affairs and an associate professor of clinical emergency medicine and pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine.

A graduate of the IU School of Medicine, Dr. Allen completed residency training in pediatrics at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and a residency in pediatric emergency medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She also holds a master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine.

A former practitioner at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Dr. Allen also served as a mentor to medical students, residents and fellows. She joined the IU faculty in 2008 as an assistant dean for diversity affairs, where she also served on the IU School of Medicine's Admissions Committee.

In 2013, Dr. Allen was appointed associate dean. She serves as the senior administrative leader for the Office of Medical Student Affairs and oversees services and programming to support the development and academic success of medical students at the school's nine campuses.
