Atkinson and Gunderman named IUPUI Chancellor's Professors
May 8, 2014
IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz, Ph.D., recently bestowed the appointment of Chancellor’s Professor upon two outstanding faculty members at the IU School of Medicine: Simon J. Atkinson, Ph.D., adjunct associate professor of medicine and biochemistry and molecular biology; and Richard Gunderman, professor and vice chair of radiology and imaging sciences.
The Chancellor’s Professor is the most notable appointment a faculty member can attain at IUPUI. It recognizes senior faculty members who display a record of extensive accomplishment and leadership in teaching, research and campus/professional service.
"It is always gratifying to recognize men and women who distinguished themselves as members of our world-class faculty. I am proud to recognize three exemplary professors who have earned the appointment of 2014 Chancellor’s Professors," Dr. Bantz said.
Linda Adele Goodine, MFA, professor of photography at the IU Herron School of Art and Design, was also named a 2014 Chancellor's Professor.
Chancellor’s Professors are faculty who have consistently contributed at a high-level and in concrete, demonstrable ways to the development of IUPUI as an academic community of exceptional quality and integrity, and to their disciplines through the creation and application of knowledge. These faculty members have compiled an outstanding career in each of the three primary areas of faculty work-teaching, research/creative works and service-over the course of at least a decade of service to the campus. The entire university community has enjoyed lasting benefits from the intellectual rigor, passion and accomplishments of these faculty members. Through their leadership and service in their department, their school and across campus, these faculty members have contributed significantly to the mission and vision of IUPUI.
