Parking changes coming to campus
Apr. 17, 2014
Changes are coming this summer to IUPUI parking -- changes that include a redesigned system of permit designations, more access to campus garages for students and rate increases of between $0 and $14 per month for employees and $3 and $7 per month for students.
In early 2012, at the request of the Board of Trustees, Indiana University examined the issue of whether to seek a private-sector partner to operate its parking facilities on the Bloomington, Indianapolis and regional campuses.
After more than one year of careful study that included input from a broad range of stakeholders across the university, as well as work from outside experts, IU decided not to request parking privatization proposals. Instead, the university is pursuing an internal plan to strengthen its parking system. The Board of Trustees is holding each campus accountable for optimizing revenue and parking efficiencies and effectiveness.
The parking changes are designed to increase efficiency and optimize the utilization of all parking spaces for employees and students. Additionally, revenues gained from the modified parking system will be reinvested into strategic initiatives such as enhancing the shuttle system and into current parking facilities for necessary upgrades and repairs.
